Motorcycle MOT and Repairs for Harwich and Dovercourt
Around eighteen miles up the coast, and a sensible place to get a bike checked before or after a ferry crossing.
Harwich and Dovercourt sit about eighteen miles north of the workshop, up the A120. It is the furthest of the areas we cover as a matter of routine, and it has one thing none of the others do: a working ferry port.
Before you get on the ferry
Harwich International runs to the Hook of Holland, and a good number of riders use it as the start of a European trip. A bike that is merely fine for commuting is not necessarily ready for two thousand miles of Continental touring with luggage and a pillion.
The things that catch people out are predictable. Tyres with enough tread for an MOT but not enough for the trip. A chain and sprockets that will not survive the mileage. Brake pads at half life. A battery that starts a warm bike at home but not a cold one in a wet car park in Belgium. Fork seals that are just beginning to weep.
Get it looked at a fortnight before you sail rather than the week of, so there is time to order anything that needs ordering. Ring 01255 427851 and say when you are travelling.
Coming back
If something has gone wrong abroad and you have limped home on the ferry, we will collect from the port and sort it out. If it will not come off the boat under its own power, ring 07300 011336 and we will recover it.
Salt, wind and a working harbour
Harwich and Dovercourt get weather off the sea from two directions, and bikes kept there corrode faster than almost anywhere else we cover. Electrical connectors and brake components suffer worst. If your bike lives outside near the water, an annual look at the brakes and the wiring is money well spent.
The distance
Eighteen miles each way is a real trip, so for anything substantial let us collect. For an MOT and service together it is usually a single day, door to door, and you never leave the house.
